The Northern Walnut Creek Trail is a wide, paved greenway in North Austin that links Balcones District Park with Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park. The Park Mile route is the 6.6-mile out-and-back on the trail — creek views, pedestrian bridges and plenty of shade.
The route
- Distance: about 6.6 miles out-and-back.
- Terrain: wide concrete trail with gentle rollers.
- Want dirt? Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park has miles of natural-surface trails to explore.
Tips
- A shared-use path — keep right and watch for cyclists.
- Good long-run option when the lake trail is crowded.
- Bring water on hot days; fountains are limited.
