Stone Mountain Park is home to the huge granite dome east of Atlanta. The Park Mile route is the Cherokee Trail loop around the base of the mountain — 5.0 miles of forest, rocks, streams and lake views. It's the longest medal in the Passport and a true trail run.

The route

  • Distance: about 5.0 miles around the mountain.
  • Terrain: natural trail with roots, rocks and rolling climbs — trail shoes help.
  • Harder option: add the Walk-Up Trail to the summit for a serious climb.

Tips

  • A vehicle parking pass is required to enter the park — plan for it.
  • Follow the trail blazes; there are several junctions.
  • Carry water; it takes longer than a road 5-miler.

How to unlock the Stone Mountain Park medal

  1. Run the route above — any pace counts, walk breaks included.
  2. Copy your Strava activity link (or a link to a screenshot of your watch or phone).
  3. Submit it on the Park Mile Passport page. Once approved, the Stone Mountain Park medal unlocks in your passport. It's free.
