Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is where Atlanta runners go to climb. The Park Mile route is the summit trail from the visitor center to the top of the mountain — 1.1 miles one way, and almost all of it uphill.
The route
- Distance: 1.1 miles one way, visitor center to summit.
- Terrain: steep, rocky trail with stone steps — short but very tough.
- Extend it: the park's longer trail system offers many more miles of hilly running.
Tips
- Pace it: power-hiking the steepest parts is completely normal.
- Be careful on the way down — the rocks can be slick.
- This is a national park and historic site; stay on marked trails.
How to unlock the Kennesaw Mountain medal
- Run the route above — any pace counts, walk breaks included.
- Copy your Strava activity link (or a link to a screenshot of your watch or phone).
- Submit it on the Park Mile Passport page. Once approved, the Kennesaw Mountain medal unlocks in your passport. It's free.
