Golden Gate Park is bigger than Central Park, with lakes, gardens, the bison paddock and the Dutch windmills by the ocean. The Park Mile route is the 7.4-mile loop around the park.

The route

  • Distance: about 7.4 miles around the park (8.8 with the Panhandle).
  • Terrain: paved paths and trails, gently rolling.
  • Shorter option: the 1-mile loop around Stow Lake.

Tips

  • Say hi to the bison near the west end.
  • The windmills sit right by Ocean Beach.
  • JFK Drive is car-free — great for running.
