The Barton Creek Greenbelt is Austin's wild side: limestone cliffs, creek crossings and shaded single track just minutes from downtown. The Park Mile route starts at the Zilker trailhead near Barton Springs: run about 1.55 miles out along the main trail and back, for a 3.1-mile trail 5K.
The route
- Distance: 3.1 miles out-and-back (turn around at 1.55 miles on your watch).
- Terrain: rocky limestone, roots and a few short climbs — trail shoes recommended.
- Extend it: the Greenbelt continues for miles; add as much as you like.
Tips
- After heavy rain, creek crossings can be flooded — check conditions and never cross fast water.
- Carry water; the trail is slower than it looks.
- Watch your footing on smooth, wet limestone.
