Audubon Park in Uptown is the most beloved running loop in New Orleans: a path under giant live oaks draped in Spanish moss, around lagoons full of herons.

The route

  • Distance: about 1.8 miles for the loop.
  • Terrain: flat paved path.
  • Extend it: add laps or run to "The Fly" on the river.

Tips

  • Go early — summers are hot and humid.
  • Look for herons and egrets on Bird Island.
  • Shaded by the oaks for much of the loop.
